Opt-Out applications are now closed

Fall students! If you missed the fall deadline, your next opportunity to apply will be next fall term. The fall application period was from September 18th, 2024 to September 30th, 2024.

Opt-Out Applications

Submit your health and/or dental opt-out application before the deadline.

Fall Application Period

From the date that you were assessed on your account to September 30th, 2025

Make sure to apply by September 30th as the online form won't be accessible after that date on your Douglas College myAccount.

There is no opt-out available during the winter term.

Opt-Out Eligibility

Only in the Fall semester, all eligible students who have comparable Health and Dental coverage from their parents, spouse, government, job, or band may apply to opt out of the plan by the applicable fall deadline.

The Health and Dental Opt-out period begins once students have been assessed with the plan fees.

To opt out, please use your Douglas College account instead of this website.

How to Opt-Out

  1. Login in to your Douglas College myAccount
  2. Select Registration
  3. Select Medical/Dental Opt Out
  4. Follow prompts and Input alternative plan name and number (There is only one opportunity to do this - you cannot go back and make changes).

This will trigger a credit to your account once your benefits carrier has been verified.

The opt-out process must be completed each year that you are assessed the Health and Dental Plan fee.

Things to consider:
  • A parents' insurance plan ceases coverage until you turn either 18 or 21, or up to 25 if you are studying full-time at a recognized education institution.
  • You can coordinate two benefit plans to maximize your coverage, potentially reaching up to 100% coverage! Find out more Coordination of Benefits.
  • Students with comparable coverage can choose to opt out of the health, dental, or both plans.
  • The only time you can get back on this Student Benefits Plan is within 30 days of losing your comparable coverage.
  • The BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) or The Student Benefits Plan is not acceptable as comparable insurance coverage.
  • The opt-out process must be completed each year that you are assessed the Health and Dental Plan fee.
  • Approval of the Student Benefits Plan Opt-Out application will result in the plan fee being refunded according to the school's policy.
  • NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed. It is the student's responsibility to pay the plan's mandatory fees, should they miss the applicable opt-out deadline.
