Accessible Health Care Anywhere!

myvirtualdoctor provides eligible students and their dependents 24/7 access to virtual health care through their smart phone, tablet or computer- anywhere in Canada!

Powered by Dialogue Health, students can consult with a medical professional to address their primary health care needs including:

  • Contraception and sexual health
  • Skin rashes and infections, minor cuts and bites
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Travel health

Telemedicine platforms in Canada are not able to prescribe controlled substances including stimulants like ADHD medications, narcotics, opioids, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, or barbiturates. If it is determined by a clinician that you require a medication not available through myvirtualdoctor, you will be assisted to find local healthcare services to receive the care you need.

Eligibility Criteria

All domestic, indigenous, government-sponsored and international students who meet the following criteria are automatically enrolled in the Virtual Health Care - myvirtualdoctor and do not need to apply for coverage.

Students who are members of the USC - Western University Students' Council and meet the following eligibility criteria are automatically assessed the mystudentplan Fee on their tuition.

You are eligible if:

You are admitted to an eligible program as having full-time status at the University of Western Ontario; and

You reside in Canada and study in person or online; and

You are under the age of 70.

Full-time equivalent students: If you are taking a reduced course load due to documented disability and are considered full-time equivalent, you are not automatically assessed the plan fees. Please contact Accessibility to have your counselor confirm your eligibility with the Student Benefits Plan Office.

Review your student account statement and search for myvirtualdoctor Fee to confirm you are covered by the Virtual Health Care - mystudentplan.

Doctor's Note for Medical Accommodation

Students can use myvirtualdoctor to obtain doctor's notes to be exempt from an academic obligation. Western accepts the Student Medical Certificate when it is filled out by a licensed practitioner. This can be completed via consultation with Dialogue. To avoid any fees you must prepare this PDF certification in advance so you can upload it during your consultation. Please review the steps below to ensure you have all the information you need prior to starting your consultation.

Doctor's notes can only be provided when medically necessary and within the scope of practice of virtual health care. Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated and may result in suspended membership.

Start a Consultation in the Dialogue app and upload your Student Medical Certificate, with section 1 filled out, to the consultation chat.

Once completed, save the completed Student Medical Certificate and proceed with the university's protocol for submission.

To create your account, open Dialogue on your Internet browser or the app and click the Create your Account button.
