ALP Students Health & Wellness Service Information

Students who are admitted to the Adult Learning Program (ALP) are automatically enrolled in mystudentplan - Student Health and Dental Plans, as well as the myvirtualdoctor - Virtual Health Care Program. Eligible students have the option to opt out of these plans if they meet the following criteria:

Health and Dental Opt-Out

All new ALP students who are studying full-time and taking in-person or blended delivery classes will be automatically added to the NSCC Health & Dental Plan.

New students must complete their ALP Transition Period before their benefits become available. Once your ALP Counsellor completes your checklist, your benefits will be activated. If you haven’t opted out, you will be added to the plan and able to submit claims right back to the first day of the month you started your program.

New students may be eligible to have the cost of their plan covered, while still having access to the benefits. Students have access to a one-time ALP waiver that covers the cost of the Health & Dental Plan. Please contact the Benefits Plan Office with any questions.

Returning ALP students will be charged the health and dental fee unless they complete an opt out before the deadline.

Students studying ALP through eCampus or enrolled in ALP-AU are not automatically included in the plan. If you would like to be included, you must submit an Opt In form by the deadline.

Students can choose to opt-out of the plans if they have comparable coverage through their parents, spouse, government program, employer, or band.

Virtual Health Care Opt-Out

All full-time and part-time ALP students (including ALP-AU) taking in-person or eCampus courses will be automatically enrolled in myvirtualdoctor.

myvirtualdoctor provides students and their eligible family members 24/7 access to virtual health care through their smart phone, tablet or computer anywhere in Canada.

Students can choose to opt-out of myvirtualdoctor by submitting the online Opt-Out form by the deadline.

Opt-Out Deadlines

Students must submit an opt-out form for each service (Health and Dental Plan and Virtual Health Care) by the deadline.

Early September start students: opt out by October 5th.

January starting students: opt out by February 5th

All other starts: opt out 30 days from your program start date

By opting out, you are choosing not to be enrolled in the NSCC Health & Dental Plan and will not have access to these benefits. You will not be charged the cost of the plan once your opt-out is approved.

You are eligible to opt out only if you currently have existing health and dental coverage through another provider. You will be asked to share the required information associated with this plan as part of your opt out.

These Opt-Out Forms must be resubmitted each year you attend NSCC as a full-time student.

If you wish to remain on one or both of these plans, please review information on this website on benefits, adding your family to the plans and more. Contact the Benefits Plan office with any questions.
