Frequently Asked Questions

Below you will find answers to the questions we get asked the most about the Student Benefits Plan.

Costs for dental and health services are at an all-time high and show no sign of reprieve. Students on fixed incomes are especially susceptible to these increases, and the last thing they want to spend these fixed monies on is an unforeseen accident, dental or medical procedure.

Leaving your health aside and not taking care of yourself can have adverse consequences for the student, such as missed classes or lost study time. Considering these points, the LPSA - Lethbridge Polytechnic Students' Association has worked to design and implement a reasonably priced Student Benefits Plan including Health and Dental Benefits. This plan can aid students in maintaining a good quality of health during their time as a student.

All eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health and Dental Plan. Students who meet the plan eligibility criteria are assessed the Health and Dental Plan fees. These fees are part of the compulsory tuition fees every term that you are eligible for the Student Benefits Plan.

Learn more about the eligibility criteria by visiting the Enrollment section.

Yes, the Health and Dental Plan fees are mandatory and must be paid by the tuition deadline to avoid overdue penalties.

The Health and Dental Benefits were approved by student referendum and as a result, are a requirement of your enrolment at the school. The Student Benefits Plan provides protection and security for eligible students minimizing the effects of injury or ailments.

Learn more about the compulsory fees by visiting the Lethbridge Polytechnic's website.

No. The Student Benefits Plan is an extended Health and Dental Benefits Plan which supplements your existing provincial health care. The Student Benefits Plan provides coverage towards additional services that provincial medical insurance plans do not cover, such as vision, dental care, and prescription drugs coverage. Student benefits are payable after any provincial health care benefits have been exhausted.

The Health and Dental Plan does not replace your provincial health care.

Learn more about the benefits by visiting the Benefits section.

To confirm enrollment in the Student Benefits Plan, sign into the myLC using your student account, check your statement of account for the current term and verify if you have been assessed the compulsory Health and Dental fees in your term tuition fees.

If you cannot find the fees on your statement of account, it means that you do not qualify for the Student Benefits Plan or you previously opted out of the Health and Dental Plan; therefore, you are not enrolled in the Health and Dental Plan.

Students may email the Benefits Plan Office at lethbridgeplan@mystudentplan.ca for eligibility and/or enrollment status.

If you already have extended coverage, you have two options:

  • Coordinating your Benefits: Benefits under the two plans can be coordinated to increase your coverage up to a total of 100% of the actual expense(s) incurred.
Learn more about the Coordination of Benefits by visiting the Enrollment section.
  • Opting Out of the Student Benefits Plan: If you are an eligible student and have comparable health and dental coverage, you can apply to opt-out of the Student Benefits Plan if you meet the opt-out eligibility criteria. All Opt-Out Forms must be completed online and must be received by the applicable deadline.
Learn more about the opt-out eligibility criteria and deadline by visiting the Opt-Out Form page.

There is a 45-day validation period from the start of the program for new eligible students, re-enrolled or opted in students, or dependents added to the plan.

During this time, you would have to pay out of pocket for all eligible health and dental expenses and keep the receipts. After the enrollment process is complete, you will be able to submit online claims for reimbursement and your Benefit Cards will be automatically activated.

Returning eligible students may continue using the Student Benefits Plan without disruption.

Learn more about how to submit claims or obtain your Benefit Cards by visiting the Claims section.

New students, re-enrolled or opted in students and dependents added to the plan need to pay out of pocket during the first 45 days of the enrollment period.

Once the enrollment period is completed, direct billing will be activated for pharmacies and dental offices, and you can register in mystudentplan Benefits App to set up direct deposit, submit online claims and obtain your Benefit Cards.

Students who withdraw a term, change their enrollment status, do not meet the plan eligibility criteria during a term, or lose the Student Benefits Plan Coverage are considered a new student on the Student Benefits Plan when they return as eligible students in future terms.

No, completing the questionnaire before submitting your application does not mean that your application is approved. The questionnaire was designed to help you understand the eligibility criteria before submitting your application.

The Student Benefits Office will confirm your eligibility and process your applications. You could receive emails informing you of the status of your application.

Learn more about the online applications, the eligibility criteria to submit them and applicable deadlines by visiting the Applications section.

  • Opt-Out
  • Family Add-On
  • Re-enroll/Opt-In

Deadlines are firm. Students must opt out, add family or re-enroll/opt-in before the applicable deadlines if they meet the application requirements.

The deadline to submit the online applications is posted on the online forms section and on each form page (Opt-Out, Family Add-On or Re-Enroll/Opt-In). Deadlines are posted through different channels like newsletters, website, social media, LCD screens, posters, email, and others.

NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed.

If the deadline is missed, please email the Benefits Plan Office at lethbridgeplan@mystudentplan.ca to confirm your next opportunity to make changes.
